Hello, World.
Apparently, after spending a decade designing things for other people's websites, I've finally decided to build my own little computer. This is it. Welcome to Perdana's Computer. It's a personal space for me to document what I'm learning, building, breaking, and figuring out along the way — somewhere between visual design, product design, technology, and code.
And there's something slightly funny about starting this now. More than a decade ago, I was already playing around with websites. I had an old computer, a Blogspot site, and an unhealthy amount of curiosity. I learned bits of HTML, experimented with CSS, and tried to figure out how things on the internet worked. Then I somehow ended up spending the next ten years as a visual designer.
Now I'm slowly finding my way back to the computer.
This time, I want to do more than design what something looks like. I want to understand how it works. I want to learn how to design it, build it, and eventually ship it.
Why I'm writing
I'm currently exploring the intersection of visual design, product design, UX, and design engineering. I'm learning code again. I'm experimenting with design in code. I'm building things instead of only designing them.
I don't have everything figured out yet. That's actually why I'm writing.
This blog will be where I document the process — the projects, experiments, things that work, things that don't, and the things I learn along the way. Some of it will probably be polished. Some of it probably won't. That's okay.
What's coming next
The next article is a much longer story. It's about how I went from an old computer in a small city, to making websites as a kid, to discovering design, starting with a $5 freelance job, working across 3,000+ projects, building a small design business, and eventually finding myself here — exploring Product Design and Design Engineering.
It's a story about where I came from, why I'm changing direction, and why this feels less like starting over and more like coming back to something I left behind.
